The Institute's Program on the Study of Rashi’s Le’azim is a two-year project, initiated in September 2019.
Its objective is to:
-
Produce a comprehensive inventory of Rashi’s French words (“Le’azim”) from his commentary on the Pentateuch;
-
Research the evolution of these words into contemporary French and English;
-
Identify statistical patterns, correlations and frequencies of occurrence for Le'azim in the source texts;
-
Investigate semantic links between Rashi’s commentary and his Le’azim, and gauge their significance;
-
Propose new interpretative insights based on the above.
This website will be regularly updated with research in progress.
Comments are welcome.
